Join us at Kunsthalle Bern for a special family-friendly experience exploring the powerful works of three acclaimed contemporary artists: Melvin Edwards, Tuli Mekondjo, and Tschabalala Self. Through a guided tour, we’ll dive into the themes, materials, and stories behind their exhibitions, gaining insight into each artist’s unique perspective and creative process:
Our journey will then turn to layered work of Tuli Mekondjo, whose multi-disciplinary practice combines textiles, sculpture, photography, video, and archival materials. Mekondjo is known for merging photography with delicate embroidery, creating richly layered images that explore memory, identity, and history.
Following the tour you and your little ones are welcome to take part in a hands-on workshop inspired by Mekondjo’s techniques. Using a vibrant mix of materials, you’ll have the opportunity to experiment with layering, textures, and storytelling to create your own unique images. It’s a creative, playful, and meaningful way to engage with contemporary art—together.
