Afro Swiss Families – Long-Term Goals
As we continue to grow, our vision is guided by four strategic pillars that ensure our work remains impactful, sustainable, and deeply rooted in the needs of Afro-European children, parents, caregivers, and allies across Switzerland.
-
We are committed to building long-term stability and shared ownership within our community.
Long-term goals:
Develop a sustainable funding model combining grants, community contributions, and donors
Establish regional Afro Swiss Families chapters (e.g., Basel, Geneva, Bern, Lausanne) to expand our reach and build strong, locally led community networks
Build leadership structures and training to support chapter coordinators and volunteers
Establish a recurring giving circle (e.g., “Village Builders” or “Friends of ASF”)
Build corporate partnerships aligned with diversity, equity, and family wellbeing
Develop earned-income streams to complement external grants
Ensure our programming remains affordable, accessible, and community-driven
Introduce a thoughtful membership structure that supports inclusion while offering meaningful benefits
-
We aim to build robust, culturally grounded programming that nurtures identity, belonging, and connection.
Long-term goals:
Develop age-specific offerings for early childhood, primary school, pre-teens, and teens
Expand workshops on identity, multilingualism, emotional wellbeing, and Afro hair care
Offer annual cultural celebrations, seasonal gatherings, and heritage-focused events
Strengthen parent, caregiver, and ally support groups (in-person and online)
Establish partnerships with schools, educators, and child development specialists
Launch youth leadership and mentorship pathways
Create evidence-informed programs based on research on racial identity, belonging, and multicultural family wellbeing
-
Our vision includes creating a permanent, culturally grounded home for Afro Swiss Families — a space designed for belonging, learning, and community connection.
Long-term goals:
Establish a dedicated Afro Swiss Families Centre as a welcoming hub for children, parents, caregivers, and allies
Host community-centered events onsite, including Meet & Play sessions, gatherings for parents, caregivers and allies, youth programs, and intergenerational activities.
Strengthen and expand our Children’s Library & Resource Collection — currently available online and at community events — and work toward giving it a permanent physical home that centers Afro-European stories, culturally relevant books, and parenting materials
Provide flexible multi-use spaces for workshops, meetings, play sessions, and community gatherings
Create an environment that reflects Afro-European cultures through art, books, storytelling spaces, and community materials
Include family-friendly amenities such as play areas, reading nooks, breastfeeding spaces, and communal kitchen areas
Reduce reliance on external venues to ensure year-round stability, accessibility, and consistency in programming
-
We aim to strengthen our voice, expand our reach, and build partnerships that uplift Afro-European families across Switzerland.
Long-term goals:
Increase national visibility as a trusted resource on Afro-European identity, belonging, and multicultural parenting
Advocate for equitable and inclusive experiences for Afro-European children in Swiss institutions
Build partnerships with cultural festivals, libraries, schools, youth organizations, and family centres
Develop and publish resources, toolkits, and stories reflecting the lived experiences of our community
Position Afro Swiss Families as a thought leader and partner for institutions seeking to better support diverse families
