Join us for “Loving Me – Raising Racially Resilient & Confident Afro-Descent Boys,” a supportive workshop with Ukaegbu Okere at GZ Oerlikon in Zurich. Raising Afro-descent boys comes with both deep joy and unique responsibility. From early childhood through adolescence, they encounter expectations, stereotypes, and experiences that shape how they see themselves and their place in the world. This workshop offers space to reflect on these realities while focusing on practical ways to foster pride, belonging, and self-worth.
Ukaegbu is a psychotherapist, supervisor, and lecturer in clinical psychology and psychotherapy at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences. Born and raised in Nigeria and now based in Switzerland, he works with adults, adolescents, children, and families. As a father of four, he brings both professional expertise and lived experience to the conversation. His practice is rooted in a transcultural and racism-sensitive approach, with a focus on supporting emotional wellbeing and identity development across diverse contexts.
In this session, we will:
Explore how Afro-descent boys develop racial identity within the Swiss context
Share strategies to support confidence, emotional expression, and resilience
Discuss how to navigate questions, challenges, and experiences of bias
Reflect on how we model safety, empowerment, and cultural pride at home
Connect with other parents and caregivers in a supportive and open space
To support parents and caregivers in fully participating, on-site childcare will be available during the workshop.
Whether you are just beginning this journey or looking to deepen your approach, this workshop offers guidance, community, and shared learning. Our aim is to equip families with practical tools and insights to support Afro-descent boys in growing into confident, grounded, and empowered young people.
