The Engelberg Trübsee Smuggler’s Trail is a relaxed, family-friendly hike that’s ideal for parents looking for an easy outdoor adventure with built-in entertainment for kids. This stroller-friendly 3.3 km loop circles the beautiful Lake Trübsee and offers flat terrain, fresh mountain air, and stunning alpine views without the stress of a challenging hike.
The Smuggler’s Trail is an easy 3.3 km loop that takes about 1.5 hours to complete at a relaxed family pace. The wide dirt and gravel path is obstacle-free and stroller-friendly, making it ideal for families with young children. Open from June to mid-October, the trail is accessed via the Engelberg–Trübsee gondola, with return tickets costing CHF 36 per adult (based on 2025 pricing) and discounts available with Swiss Travel Pass, Half Fare Card, GA, Berner Oberland Pass, or free travel with the Tell Pass. Located in Engelberg, Central Switzerland, it’s an easy family day trip—just 35 minutes by car from Lucerne, 1 hour 10 minutes from Zurich, or around 1 hour by public transport from Lucerne.
